Until recently, I wouldn’t have defined myself as a Catholic. And I am still getting used to the concept myself. Having grown up non-religious in East Germany, I couldn’t have been further away from a religious belief system. The first time I ever really came into contact with spirituality was when I met my now-husband, John. A devout Catholic, he introduced me to his deep faith. On Easter 2023, at the age of 39, I celebrated my baptism as the only adult in an Irish congregation. Today, our family life is centered on our faith, and I am proudly a “beginner” Catholic.
